WHITIANGA DANCE

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION SEVERAL NOVELTY ITEMS The patriotic dance held in the Public Hall, Whitianga, on Thursday, ■October 7, bore further testimony of the keen activity of the Whitianga Patriotic Committee. .Patriotic dances have become a much-appreciated regular feature in Whitianga, and as usual, patriotic workers have carried them out with creditable co-operation.

On Thursday evening the hall was well attended, the M.C., Mr Happy, performing honours with humorous individuality. Mrs Rose, also, was in particularly splendid form, and her music seems to fulfil the popular demand for good timing with modern music.

The Whitianga harmonists gave an extra, introducing to Thursday evening dancers, a new repertoire which was highly successful, due no doubt to the confidence Mr <S. Hemmings seems to imbue in the local lads when he, conducts their singing’ and ukulele strumming with the beat of his castanettes.

During the evening, Mr Happy organised a broom waltz and this proved an amusing highlight, the dancers entering into the spirit of the novelty with good sportsmanship. Bupper was again supplied by the ladies of®the Bay in conjunction with the patriotic workers.

Monte Carlo winners were Mrs Sewell and Mrs Brophy. ,>
