CARNIVAL FOR PAEROA PROGRAMME ARRANGED PATRIOTIC FUNDS TO BE AIDED A number of horse sport enthusiasts met in Paeroa recently when it was decided to organise a picnic horse sports carnival in aid of Patriotic Funds to be held on August 14. Officers were elected as under; — Patron, Mr Edwin Edwards; president. Mr V. Young; secretaries, Mr K. Dean, Mrs A. Carrick and Mr J. Bartlett; committee, Messrs E. P. Fathers. M. Crimmins, W. Crimmins, M. Bailey, G. Vincent, O Young, M. Vuglar, W. Handley, F. Handley, H. Evans, C. Clotwoithy, J. Smith, K. Jamieson, W. Neil, W. Barroclough, W. Chamberlain, G. Spinks. E. L. Shaw, H. Te Whero, L. Richards, J. Spinks. A programme consisting of thirteen events was drawn up as follows:— 1. —Pony race: 2 fur., ponies 14.2 and under to be ridden by riders 16 yrs. and under. Event starts at 11 a.m. Ist. £1 Is, 2nd. 10s, 3rd. ss. Entry fee Is. 2. —Flying Handicap: 3 fur. For horses that have never raced at a totalisator meeting. Minimum weights t —Races, 2.5, 10, 11, nine-stone minimum; races 3,6, ten-stone minimum. Othei* races catch-weights. Handicapping will be done by distance. Trotting method. Messrs L. Sloane of Kopuarahi and G. Wyborne of Te Aroha were appointed handicappers. Mr W. Crimmins was appointed starter. Mr E. Edwards and Mr. M. Crimmins were appointed judges. Mr M. Bailey was appointed announcer for the broadcasting system.
