TWENTY YEARS AGO

ST. PAUL’S CHOIR DRIVE

SUCCESSFUL EVENING

EUCHRE FOR NON-DANCERS

(From the Hauraki Plains Gazette of April 16, 1923)

The social and dance organised by the St. Paul’s choir and friends, held in the Central Theatre on Thursday, was an unqualified success. The evening was fine with a tinge of frost in the air, making it very pleasant for dancing.. The floor was hardly satisfactory. However, Mr “Brookie” Christian at the piano delivered such irresistible music as to make the dancers almost forget the state of the floor.

For those who were not inclined to dance a euchre tournament was held, and provided keen competition and fun in ’ the struggle for the valuable prizes offered. The first prize in the ladies’ section was won by Mrs Treanor, whilst Mrs E. Edwards captured the second prize. In the gentlemen’s division the first honours went to Mr G. McKee, Mr M. Crosby being runner-up. A delicious and dainty supper was served shortly after 11 p.m.. The floral decorations were both pretty and effective, and comprised cosmos, chrysanthemums and dahlias, together

with beautiful autumn leaves. Mr E. Edwards carried out the * duties of M.C. in a very attentive manner. Extras were contributed by Mrs Staunton and 'Miss L. Vincent. Mr G. N. Hart and the'committee associated with him are to be heartily congratu- ' lated on the success of the social.
