KEREPEEHI FAREWELL

FOUR SOLDIERS HONOURED

CHEQUE GIVEN TO EACH

Although the farewell evening in honour of Gunner D. A. Hill and Ptes. 'G. R. Crisp, R. Chick and IP. C. Burling had to be arranged at very short notice, there was a large and representative crowd gathered in the Kerepeehi Hall on Friday evening. Music was supplied by Dan Fisher’s OrIchestra and extras were supplied by Mrs P. Innis and Miss J. Hayes. Mr V. Turner carried out the duties of M.C.

In presenting the guests of honour with a cheque each on behalf of the residents, Mr P. G. Pearce wished them the best of luck and expressed the hope that they would' finish the job while they were away and that it would not ibe long before the residents were gatherecl together to welcome them all home again.

Hill thanked the •people for the gifts to himself and the other three soldiers and expressed his pleasure at being invited to attend the farewell at Kerepeehi, as having left recently to live in Paeroa, he did not expect to be farewelled from this district. He assured the local residents that it was a great thrill when he was requested to attend. He also expressed the hope that after doing his bit over yonder he would be included in the welcome home with the other local lads.

The evening was brought to a close with the singing of “They Are Jolly ■Good Fellows,” and “Auld Lang ■Syne,” and “God Save The King.”

SGT. B. BILLINGS HONOURED

MR & MRS FISHER ENTERTAIN

There was a large gathering of friends and relatives at the residence of Mr and Mrs A. L. Fisher, Kere- ’ peehi, to tender a farewell to Sergeant B. Billings '(nephew of the host and hostess). It was also the birthday of Mr Billings, father of Sgt. Billings. Community-singing was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. Mrs R. Fisher of Netherton supplied' the music which was greatly appreciated. Mr P. G. Pearce spoke on behalf of those present and wished Barney the best of luck and a speedy return and expressed the hope that it would not be long before his friends would be welcoming him home. Hearty thanks were accorded Mr and Mrs Fisher and Mr and Mrs Billings for their hospitality. The evening was concluded with the singing of “They Are Jolly Good Fellows.”
