'WHITIANGA COMMITTEE MEET SPORTS MEETING AT EASTER A meeting of the Whitianga Patriotic Committee was held in Mercury Bay on Thursday, April 1. A proposal that a sports meeting be held during the Easter vacation was discussed and a ’ small sub-committee was formed to act in the matter.
The resignation of the secretary, Mr W; H. Heald, who has held the position since the commencement of the war, was accepted with regret. Mr Heald explained that sickness made it necessary for him to be away from the district for a fairly lengthy period and he could. not do the position justice. A vote of thanks was carried with acclamation. Mrs L. Russell was elected secretary for the coming year and was welcomed by the committee.'
