ODDFELLOWS’ PICNIC

DAY SPENT AT TE KOUMA AN ENJOYABLE OUTING On Sunday, December 27, the Oddfellows’ Lodge picnic was held at Te Kouma Harbour. The M.V. Maretana left the wharf at approximately 10 a.m. with about 80- adults and children aboard. Several intending passengers were detained by the overcast weather, but as the day progressed the sun came out and a lovely day was experienced. The . trip there and back proved most enjoyable and those who went spent a very happy day. _ During the afternoon Bro. S. Strongman and Mrs Strongman organised races on the beach. The results of the races were as follows: — Cross-Country Steeplechase.—Jack Beech, 1; Glen Dobbs, 2. Three-legged Race '(Boys).—Jack Beech and iPrince Potae, 1.

Three-legged Race (Girls). —Anne Compton and Lena Crapp, 1. -Girls’ Steeplechase.—Lena Crapp, 1; Joan Turner, 2. 109 Yards Flat. —Jack Beech, 1; Prince Potae, 2.

Young Ladies’ Race. —Maureen Jane, 1; Gladys 'Gillanders, 2. Young Men’s Race.—Doug. Beech, 1; Jack Beech, 2. Consolation Race.—Maurice Pepper, 1; Bill Lillis, 2. A very -successful outing was brought to a close with the arrival back at the wharf at 7.30 p.m.
