FIGURES FOR LAST SEASON

PEDIGREE FRIESIANS TESTED

The returns, as supplied by the Dairy Division, Department of Agriculture, for the pedigree Friesians tested under Government O.H.T. during the 1940-41 season show that thirty-five breeders submitting either the whole or part of their pedigree Friesian herds for testing during the season. Mr R. G. Mclntosh of Kerepeehi heads the list for New Zealand, securing 11,289.6 lb. of milk from 30 cows in 295' days. Some excellent performances under ordinary herd conditions were recorded by the 525 cows tested. During the season a total of 168 cows produced over 400 lb. fat, including 24 over 500 lb., three over 600' 1]?-, and one over 700' lb. fat. These are easily the best returns yet recorded under Government O.H.T.

Included among the herds in which 10 cows or over were tested during the .season are the following:

Glenhope Queen Echo Jewell H.C., the top producer for the season with 732.70' lb. fat is the highest mature Friesian cow yet tested under G.O.H.T. and her yield is within 12 lb. fat of the .record for the breed under this test. Her sire is Rosevale King Roberts Posch, and her dam Rosevale Echo Posch Jewel, V.H.C., C.O.R. 696 lb. fat.

The return of 682.73 lb. fat by Bonovoree 108th., V.H.C., is the highest yet recorded by the North Island Friesian under this test and is a very fine performance on twice-a-day milking for a nine-year-old cow. She is ■by the noted sire Dominion Big Patch /while her dam is Matamata Netherland Posch 6'B. By producing 622.03 lb. fat in 268

days Livingstone Ormsby Sunbeam, H.C., recorded her second return over '6OO lb. fat, having produced 657.72. lb. fat the previous season under C.O.R. She is the highest record daughter to date of Ahikouka Prospector, while her dam is L. Wakalona Sunbeam.

The fourth 600 lb. matron for the season, Lelburne Princess Maudena iPride, 611.08 lb. fat is by Rosevale Count Echo Beets and from L. Princess Maudella Pride, C.O.R. 905 lb| fat. The highest producers for the season in the various junior classes were:— Senior four-year-old.—R. H. Dickie’s Lauderdale Princess Lucy, H.C., (Rosevale Prince Echo Roberts —L. Lassie), 571.26 lb. fat at four years 348 days. Junior four-year-old.—A. W. Montgomerie’s Rosevale Regina Josephine Posch, V.H.C., (R. Champion Posch Echo—Regina Posch of the South, C.O.R. 823 lb. fat), 557.52 lb. fat at four years 179 days. Senior three-year-old.—R. G. McIntosh’s Okains Maid, V.H.C., (Honeyfields Pietje—Oakview Pioneer Monona Posch 30, VJH.C.), 536.92 lb. fat at three years 353 days. Junior three-year-old.—R. A. Wil-

Senior two-year-olds.—Estate R. Dick’s -Gleniffer Alcartra De Koi, H.C., (Willowglen Alcartra Clothilde —G. Cora Echo Posch), 13991.0 ,Ib. milk, 481.51 lb. fat in 305 days at two years 359 days.

Junior two-year-old.—R. H. Dickie’s Lauderdale Minnie Burkeyje ! (L. Mercena Burkeyje—L. Princess Maria, H.C., C.0.R., 640 lb. fat), 10405.2 lb. milk, 468.42 lb. fat in 305 days at one year 352 days, which return is the highest yet recorded by a junior two-year-old Friesian heifer under Government O.H.T.

Tn addition to the above herds the cows tested by the following breeders show very high averages:-K. H. Eames 494.03 lb. fat; Allan Bros. (Allandale), three cows, 487.37 Mb. fat Est . Dick (Weston), three cows, 466.65 lb. fat, J. Lee Hodgson ( ’ seven cows, 400.64 lb. fat.
