£26 RAISED
GIRL GUIDE AFTERNOON MERCURY BAY FUNCTION . On Saturday, August 8, a very successful afternoon was held iby the Whitianga Girl Guides to raise money for the purpose of subscribing towards the building of four recreation huts named “Trefoil Huts,” being built for soldiers in four New Zealand training camps. The effort was held in the form of stalls, raffles and competitions a sum of £26 being raised. The stalls of produce, cooking and fancy work were very well patronised and sold out early in the afternoon. Raffles also were well patronised, a cushion being won by Mrs A. Simpson, mirror by Mrs Pooley, a box of vegetables by Mrs Moss, a cake by Mrs Broad, and a box of chocolates by Joan Simpson. The competitions which were held at intervals during the afternoon proved very amusing and helped towards making the afternoon quite an enjoyable one, which came to a conclusion with Mrs Harrison, Girl Guide Commissioner, thanking those who gave donations and donated raffles and all those who contributed to the stalls and had helped in any way to make the afternoon such a success.
