PRIVATE J- A. SMITH HIKUTAIA BOY MISSING Among those listed as missing during the last few- days is Private J. A. Smith, of Hikutaia, younger son of the late Mr and Mrs Samuel Smith, senr., and brother of Mr S. Smith, junr., and Mrs J. Tompkins, both of Hikutaia. Private Smith, who left New Zealand as a member of the 'Second Echelon, was born at Papakura and is 36 years old. Before enlisting he had resided in Hikutaia for 31 yeais where he followed the occupation of farming. He received his education at the Hikutaia West .School and was, during his younger' days, well. known and popular as one of Hikutaia’s outstanding rugby footballers, having represented both Hikutaia and Paeroa on a number of occasions.
