LOWEST FOR LAST 18 YEARS WEATHER FOR THE MONTH YEAR’S RAINFALL ABOUT HALF Although July was damp and cold the total rainfall for the month recorded in Paeroa was the lowest since 1924, being only 3.34 inches. The rainfall to date for the year has been only half that of last year, being 16.25 inches compared with 32.07 inches for the same period last year.

Rain fell on 19 days during the month compared with 18 days last July, but on no occasion was the fall heavy, the highest recorded being .59, .67 and .49 inches on July 1, 21 and 29. Sunshine was registered on 11 days during the month. Only five frosts were experienced during the month, although one or two of them were rather sharp. On July 3ft snow could be seen on the Te Aroha mountain.

There was considerable variation in readings from the thermometer, the highest being 63 degrees on July 5, while the lowest, 36 degrees, was registered on July 17 when a sharp frost was experienced. Other low readings were 38 degrees on July 9, 42 degrees on July 10 and 44 degrees on July 27, 30 and 31 when frosts were also registered.

Barometric pressure showed little fluctuation, the lowest reading being 29.35 inches on July 29, while the highest was registered at 39.32 inches on July 9.
