NARROW ESCAPE

ACCIDENT AT KEREPEEHI CROSS-ROADS COLLISION LORRY ENDS IN DEEP DRAIN When a lorry and a car collided at the Kerepeehi Hotel cross-roads on Friday the occupants of both vehicles experienced a narrow escape from injury. The car, driven by Mr H. Candy, of Kerepeehi, was proceeding from the Kerepeehi township across the Paeroa-Ngatea Main Highway while

the lorry, owned by Messrs C. A. Stenbridge and Sons, was proceeding from Paeroa to Ngatea loaded with coal.

As a result of the accident the lorry left the road, running headfirst into a deep drain which runs parallel with the road. The front of the lorry was driven back into the cab while the load of coal poured over the cab, practically burying it in the drain. Except for bruises on the chest and head, the lorry driver was not seriously hurt, while a passenger escaped injury altogether Mr Gandy’s car was badly damaged in the front but Mr Candy himself was not hurt.
