BASKETBALL AT THAMES

’• TWO SPEEDY GAMES SEEN

Two Hauraki Plains basketball teams paid a visit to Thames on Saturday when they were defeated by the Thames A and, B representatives. The Thames A team defeated Tlauraki Plains by 22 to 6. The game was characterised, by a spirit of friendly keenness that was surprisingly well maintained throughout. Speed and action were outstanding features of the play of both sides, the home team’s combination and teamwork excelling and bringing them well-deserved victory. The margin of difference was an indication of the game. Mrs Hays was captain of the Thames team while Mrs Waite captained the visiting A team. Mr L. Hays, of Thames, refereed both the A and B games. Thames ran out winners in the B game by 20' to 4. As in the big game, the pace was hot throughout, Thames keeping up the pressure. 'At half-time, by consent of the home team, the visitors brought on three fresh players: The score was then 16 to 1. Only seven goals were shot during the second spell. A Return matches will be played, at Ngatea oil Saturday week.
