MUST BE WATCHED

EXPENDITURE INCREASES VALLEY POWER BOARD NO FURTHER APPLIANCES The need for the Thames VaL Jgy Electric Power Board to watch expenditure increases so that it did not outstrip revenue growth was emphasised at Tuesday’s meeting of the board by the manager, Mr R. Sprague. The manager reported on the subject as follows: — “On Friday, June 26, an Order-in-Council was gazetted prohibiting the manufacture of household electrical appliances, owing to the shortage of non-fertous metals which are required in huge quantities for war purposes. Similar action has been taken in U.S.A, and England. , “This now means that manufacture" of ranges, waterheaters and in all a total of 27 named appliances, will not be manufactured from this date. After the sale of existing stocks by the- board and stockists in the area, of 'these commodities, no further revenue can be expected under this heading until the embargo is lifted, which is apparently for the duration of the war or until the supply position has eased.

“These appliances have been / our main source of increased load- , ing and revenue for some years past. It will now be more necessary to see that expenditure increases do not outstrip revenue growth.”
