UNITED NATIONS DAY

SPECIAL CHURCH PARADE SERVICE AT ST. ANDREW’S The celebration of United Nations Day was observed in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Paeroa, at the morning service on Sunday, when a mass church parade was held, the following local units taking part, Girl Guides and Brownies, Scouts and Cubs, Women’s War Service Auxiliary, Ladies’ Nursing Division (including V.A.D’sj of St. John Ambu-' lance Association, Hospital, Fire Brigade and Returned Services Association. His Worship the Mayor and Mrs Edwards, and representatives of the Army and Airforce were also present. As many flags of the Allies as obtainable, were draped over the .choir rails.

Mr Jamieson warmly welcomed those who had made the special effort to a'ttend such a worthy commemoration, which must surely strengthen, comfort and inspire the many thousands throughout the Allied Nations who would be joining in the day’s observance.

Special prayers and appropriate hymns were rendered', the text of an impressive address, being Isaiah 33, verse 1.

Homage was also paid to the ideals of freedom and the strength and spirit of unity prevailing among those nations which are combining together not only to resist aggression, but also to re-establish on earth the rule of law and justice. To this end it is well that 2we re-dedicate ourselves individually and unitedly. Althogether the service which included. the National Anthem, and a hymn especially for those who are serving their country, was an impressive one, the many uniforms striking an inspiring note.
