BACK-ROOM METHODS
SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION
TRIED TO POSTPONE MEETING One expects to hear of back-room methods in the arena of Parliamentary politics, but when it comes to the extremely limited scope of local school committees, one is, to say the least of it, surprised. At one of the election meetings held to choose new committees for Thames schools recently, a certain gentleman wanted; the removal of the chairman. He pleaded that, as there was only just a quorum present, the meeting should be postponed. This was not a popular idea, so he then excused himself on the grounds of ill-health and walked out, thus breaking the quorum. But- another gentleman, asking everybody to wait a few minutes, dashed out in his car and brought in an extra man, thus permitting the meeting to be held.
