RIBBONS STOLEN
REMOVED FROM THE CENOTAPH DEPLORABLE LACK OF RESPECT A deplorable lack of respect for the Cenotaph on Primrose Hill is evidenced in the report of the theft of the ribbons last Saturday afternoon and Saturday night from the wreaths placed during the Anzac Day Commemoration Service. When the Cenotaph was inspected by a representative of the Paeroa Borough Council at 5 o’clock on Saturday, afternoon the wreaths had not been disturbed although he had to warn some children who were playing on the Cenotaph among the wreaths. However, on Sunday morning it was found that all the ribbons had been stolen. Residents living near Primrose Hill report that the general behaviour of the public, especially children has improved in the last year or two as prior to that it was a common occurrence for the children to bowl the wreaths down the side of the hill after the service.
