THAMES CONTRACTOR’S SUICIDE
BQDY NAKED IN WORKSHOP
A verdict of deliberate suicide, with no motive discernible, was returned at an inquest held by the Thames Coroner, Mr W. Bongard, Friday morning into the death of William Paul, aged 64, contractor, of Richmond street, Thames.
Deceased’s body was found under strange circumstances by his son-in-law last evening. Paul had strangled himself with an improved cord of rope and canvas, tied to a door-knob in his own worshop and thrown over the top of the door. A running no.ose was fastened round his neck and this caused, death by strangulation. The body was naked except for' boots and socks. . The trousers were down round the .ankles; '. Medical evidence indicated that if he had stood upright he could have taken the strain off the cord and strangulation would not have occurred. It was this point which decided the coroner that suicide had been deliberate.
