CAUSES OF DEATH
STATISTICS FOR DOMINION '8825 FOR YEAR JUST ENDED The total number of deaths throughout the Dominion was 8825 in 1941, compared with 8272- the preceding year, according to the Monthly Abstract of Statistics. The principal cause of death was heart disease and allied troubles, which accounted for 3109 deaths. Cancer was the cause of death in 1245 cases, while the third chief cause was disease of the brain, including paralytic strokes, deaths from which numbered 865. As- in recent years the incidence of tuberculosis was comparatively low, this being responsible for only 351 deaths. Sixty-one people committed suicide and five fell victims to homicidal attacks.
