FAREWELL PARTY

MRS ROWAN ENTERTAINED

FUNCTION IN CIVIC HALL

GATHERING TUESDAY NIGHT

Last evening a large number of Mrs W. Rowan’s friends met together in the Civic Ballroom to bid her farewell on her departure to Napier. The hall had been tastefully decorated with large bowls of flowers and greenery while a cheery fire brightened one corner. The evening was spent in playing bridge, mah jong and games. The hostesses who had combined to organise such a successful and enjoyable function were Mesdames W. Stewart, G. Bain, C. N. O’Neill, R. S. Carden, G. Stewart, A. J. Young and E. Edwards.

Much appreciated items were rendered by Mrs J. Stevenson who sang “Serenata,” and “Keep on Hopin’.” Mrs W. Aston was warmly applauded after singing* “Here’s To Love nd. Laughter,” and on being recalled sang a duet with Mrs Stevenson entitled “Passing By.” Mrs R. Wemyss acted as accompanist during the evening. " A really delicious supper was served in buffet fashion after which prizes were presented to the. following: Bridge, Miss V. Menzies; consolation, Mrs R. A. Mace. Mah jong, Mrs R. Wilson; game, Mrs C. James. Mrs W. Stewart then presented the guest of honour with a» bouquet of flowers and mentioned how very sorry they all were to lose Mrs Rowan who had at all times shown such wonderful hospitality. She would not be forgotten and as a token of remembrance, Mrs ,Stewart on behalf of her fellow hostesses and those present, asked Mrs Rowan to accept a case of silver teaspoons and two cups and saucers.

Mrs Rowan in her usual cheery manner thanked one and all for the gifts and said that she would carry away memories of Paeroa which she would treasure and never forget.

A very original and delightful toast was proposed by each hostess in turn and honoured by the guests. Each lady present added her signature to a card at the request of Mrs Rowan.

At the conclusion of the function “Auld Lang Syne;” and the National Anthem were sung.
