CITY’S BALLOTEERS TOTAL IN CHRISTCHURCH The calling up for territorial service oi' 1156 men in the fifth ballot made a total of 13,646 men called in the five l>allot«s in the Christchurch military area. A large number of these men have -not begun service, either Territorial or overseas, for a variety of reasons, but their files have been prepared at the Army Registration Office in the city.
In handling this number of reservists in the last six months, the office handled as many men as it did in the whole of the first year of the war. The number of men called up in the fifth ballot in Christchurch was higher than in any other area in the .DO’
minion. In the third and fourth ballots (overseas .service), the Christchurch totals were second to those of Auckland.
The throe leading areas in the fifth ballot were: Christchurch 1156, Auckland 1079, Wellington 853.
