DID HITLER TRY?

INVASION OF BRITAIN AMAZING NEW YORK STORY BEATEN BY FIRE ON WATER An amazing story is published in the New York Times, one of America’s most reputable newspapers, emanating from a correspondent who, while remaining anonymous, is vouched for by the paper in question.

The story is to the effect that Hitler has actually twice launched his hordes in attempted invasions of England—in August and September, 1940 —and has twice failed, with catastrophic results. Simple and primitive were the arrangements made by Britain to defy attack. In 1588 A.D. the Spanish Armada was scattered in confusion by the “fire ships” which England let drift into the Spanish fleet, ‘ ‘ seven miles from wing to l - wing.” So, also, in 1940 A.D. Under the waters of the English Channel, just far enough below the surface, tanks of oil were strewn. Thousands of tanks of gasoline were anchored over the same area of water. Germans were to cross the Channel in barges carrying 50 soldiers each, and the total military embarkation was to be 80,000 German soldiers at each crossing.

In August, 1940, the Hun actually embarked.

Half-way across, the British barrage of “fire on water” confronted them.

Aeroplanes from the English coast showered incendiary bombs on every German floater. All the Channel was ablaze.

What losses were suffered by the German “invaders” may never be accurately computed. It was a holocaust.

With the'second attempt in September, 1940, and similar British defence, the doomed Hun invaders are believed to have lost 80,000 lives.
