PRESENTATION MADE WINNERS FOR 1939 COMPETITIONS IN P AERO A The presentation of trophies won in the Paeroa Rugby Union’s 19-39 season was made by the president of the. union, Mr D. G. McMillan, at a dance run by the Hikutaia Football Club at Hikutaia last week. In making the presentation Mr McMillan congratulated the Hikutaia Club on its successful function that evening, which, he said, was equal to their play on the football field which once again this season, had been of a very high order. He thanked the Hikutaia club for their invitation to himself to be present and for permitting the Paeroa Union, to present the trophies won during the past season. He also made reference to the splendid services rendered by Mr P. Williams Jnr., as coach for the senior representative team, stating that much of their success had been due to his efforts. The same, he added, could be said about Mr R. Nicol, the junior selector and coach. He then presented the following trophies:— (Senior Shield.—Hikutaia Football Club.
Knock-out Cup for. Seniors. —'West Football Club.
Junior Cup.-—Convent Old Boys’ Football Club.
Third 'Grade Cup.—Convent Old Boys’ Football Club. Knock-out Cup, Third Grade.— Convent Old Boys’ Football Club.
Mr McMillan then presented two medals on behalf of the Hikutaia Club, given by Mr Gordon Royal for most improved junior, forward and back in the Hikutaia club, these being won by J. Trembath (forward) and J. Morrison (back).
The presentation was concluded with cheers and hearty applause for the successful teams and players.
