HAURAKI PLAINS GOLF

MATCHES IN THE WEEK-END

LINKS AGAIN OPEN FOR PLAY.

The Hauraki Plains Golf Club recommenced play on Saturday on its links after a spell off. The grass was still short, and the ground was considerably drier. It is expected that by next week-end the greens will again be in first-class order.

A stableford bogey competition played on Saturday afternoon was won by W. H. Porter, 25—9, 34, the runnerup, W. J. Baxter with 16—18, 34; losing on the count-back. Yesterday the combined Hauraki Plains-Mangatawhiri team beat Pupuke on the Mangatawhiri links by five matches to four. The links were not in the fine condition they were for the tournament last week, but everybody spent a very enjoyable day. The qualifying rounds for the Hauraki Plains Golf Club’s championships will be played next* week-end. It is desirable that the championship matches should be played as quickly as possible, owing to the lateness of the season.
