ENGLISH POLICEMAN
WHAT HE COSTS EACH YEAR. The report of H. M. Inspectors of Constabulary gives the average daily strength of all forces in England and Wales, excluding the metropolitan and London City as 37,686. The net expenditure of these forces is £13,466,697, so that the average cost of a policeman is £357 per annum to the nearest pound. In the metropolitan area the figure is higher, for. after deducting from expenditure £100,060 received for Imperial and national reserves, and £5510 for Commissioner’s salary, etc., the cost works out at £399 a policeman . In London City a policeman costs still more- —£442 per annum.
