Councillors’ Allowances.
“I don’t think we should endorse the view that lOd an hour is adequate payment for councillors, when we have to pay our men 2s 3d an hour,” said a delegate at the conference of the New Zealand Counties’ Association in "Wellington. In regard to a remit, urging that the Counties Act be amended to provide for a fixed allowance to councillors of £1 Is per meeting, in addition to travelling expenses, a sub-committee reported that there was already ■ adequate provision. A move to icinstate the remit was defeated.
