NEW GRANDSTAND

PAEROA RACECOURSE ACCOMMODATION FIGURES DEFECTS IN FIRST BUILDING. The new grandstand to be erected by the Ohinemuri Jockey Club on its racecourse at Paeroa was the subject of an explanation to the annual meeting of the club by the chairman of the •committee, Mr P. E. Brenan, on Monday evening. The original structure had been blown down early in the year when only partially erected. “A severe gale showed several defects in the design,” Mr Brenan explained, “and we were grateful to see the elements reveal those defects rather than for the stand to collapse at a meeting with the members and their wives on it.” Additional Accommodation. He asked the members to be patient as they would be satisfied with the additional accommodation contemplated. The president, Mr F. E. Flatt, later stated that mistakes had been made regarding the stand but the construction of the new one would be on a better footing. After it had been erected the whole position and how the losses on the other building, if . any, had been appointed, would be given to the members. Mr B. Neil asked if a clerk of works had been engaged to supervise the erection of the new stand. New Stewards’ Stand. The chairman stated that the whole matter was in the hands of a competent architect and that question was left to him. The architect had built the Auckland Trotting Club’s stand. Later in the meeting Mr Flatt stated that the present stewards’ stand would be extended eastwards for 30 ■feet and made into a members’ stand with every convenience and appoint- : ment, while a new stewards’ stand would be erected at the western end. ' The whole stand would give an uninterrupted view of the whole course. The members’ stand would accommodate 640 and the stewards’ stand 75.
