CARE OF THE SICK

DISTRICT HOSPITALS THAMES BOARD’S MEETING. The Thames Hospital Board met yesterday, Mr P. E. Brenan presiding over Messrs J. W. Danby, A. R. Robinson, A. G. Davis, W. C. Kennedy, W. Madgwick, and the secretary, Mr G. Tonge. The North Canterbury Hospital Board forwarded a circular suggesting that as the medical examination of unemployed men for relief work purposes had fallen on hospital board officers for a number of years the time had arrived when the Unemployment Board should take over the examinations or else remunerate the Board s officers for the extra work cast upon them.

The secretary stated that quite a few men had been examined in Thames, some of them in the superintendent’s own time. The chairman said that if the work were done by the Board it would save the country some expenditure. He advocated appointing a set time for examination at the Hospital. This was agreed to. Staff Changes. The masseuse, Miss F. M. Bett, forwarded her resignation as she had been appointed to a position in a larger hospital. The resignation was accepted and the superintendent’s and matron’s arrangements to fill the vacancy were confirmed. The sister in charge of the maternity annexe, Miss M. Bach, applied for six months’ leave of absence to take the post graduate nursing course in Wellington offered by the Health Department. The application was granted. The annual balance sheet was returned duly certified by the Audit Department. Accounts amounting to £1985 3s 3d for Thames and £63 4s 2d for Paeroa were passed for payment.
