GIFT EVENING.

FUNCTION AT TURUA.

Mr A. H. Sutton, of Huirau Road, Turua, whose home and all its contents were destroyed •by fire a few weeks ago, was the guest of the people of the district at a gift evening in the Turua Hall on Tuesday of last week.. There was a very big attendance and an enjoyable evening was spent. Dance music was played by Mrs J. M. Mules and Mr C. D. Robertson, songs were rendered by Mesdames E. Clark, W. Clark and C. K. Fox, Mr G. Hessell and Mr H. Williams, and recitations were contributed by Miss H. Dale and Mrs L. Schmidt. Mr J. Newman was M.C. The winners of the competitions were Mrs E. A. Clark and Mr H. Williams . Mr W. Madgwick called upon Mr Sutton .to accept the gifts from his many friends and on behalf of all present wished him and his family happiness and the best of luck in the future. Mr Sutton returned thanks for the gifts and good wishes and said that he wished to specially thank his neighbours on Huirau Road who had so willingly come to his assistance when his home was burned down. All joined in singing “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows.”
