PAEROA FIRE BRIGADE.

I Q i J FIRE COUNCIL’S REPORT. DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT HONOURED. The Paeroa Fire Council tabled at this month’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council the balance sheet for the year ended March 31, 1935. It showed total receipts amounting to £ll4 7s lOd plus £3 7s 2d brought forward from the previous year and expenditure totalling £92 5s 2d so that there was a credit balance of £25.9s lOd. A portion of this credit balance was set aside for new uniforms.

The Fire Council’s report stated that the Brigade under Supt. W. Moore, had been maintained up to full standard during the year and the equipment has received all necessary attention at the hands of the Brigade, and is at present in good order and condition, except the tyres on the fire engine which will have to be replaced during the ensuing term. During March the annual fire prevention week was held throughout the Dominion and the Fire Council joined in the movement. An inspection of the borough was made by the Superintendent of the Brigade in conjunction with the Borough’s inspection.

A request for a special donation ! from the Borough Council has been received to assist in providing suitable recognition for services rendered to the Brigade by Dept. Supt. E. Moore who has now completed 25 years service in the Paeroa Brigade and will be presented with a 25 years service Gold Star in May of this year, stated the Fire Council. The Brigade proposed holding a special function at which the presentation will be made and the Fire ‘ Council recommended that in view of the special circumstances a special grant be made for the purpose by the Borough Council.

Moving the reception of the report, Cr. Edwards commended the brigade on its work during the year and urged that the recommendations of the report be adopted.

After a long discussion it was decided on the motion of the mayor to recommend the new council to increase the Brigade’s social grant by 50 per cent.
