TOURIST ATTRACTION
OLD HOUSE BOAT. ON BEACH AT WHITIANGA. On an admirable piece of grass land on the Mercury Bay foreshore, a house boat is located. This quaint structure was owned and occupied for many years by Mr H. Chapman, now deceased. He left no estate to be administered, and it was suggested to tl.e Coromandel County Council by Mr J. M. Wrigley, ‘of Mercury Bay. that the Council take possession of the house boat immediately and have it preserved as a place of interest for the tourist traffic in the Bay. A notice board and a couple of coats of paint would be all that was required, Visitors to the Bay, he stated, were much interested in the little structure, and a traveller had mentioned seeing a picture of it while in Western Australia, and on visiting Whitianga it was the first thing he wanted to see. Mr Wrigley hoped the Council wrnld not allow such a unique and valuable tourist attraction to suffer for want of attention at a small cost. It was decided to investigate claims :■> ownership of the houseboat, with a view to acting ns suggested by Mi Wrigley.
