A message from Mudgee says that a traveller spending a night with a district farmer discussed the affairs of the country with his host. He became more and more puzzled as to how the little farm paid. At last he ventured the question: “How in the world do you make a do of it at all?" Indicating the farm hand sitting at the end of the supper table, the host replied: “You see that fellow there. Well I can't pay him. In two years he gets the farm. Then I work for him until I get it back."
