ODDFELLOWS’ BALL.

BRILLIANT DISPLAY. . FUNCTION AT WAITAKARURU. The floor of the Waitakaruru Hall on Wednesday evening last scarcely provided dancing room for the record crowd which attended the Oddfellows’ Ball. Representatives from other lodges on the Plains and in Thames attended, the grand march being led off by P.C. Group Officer Bro. Hardman, of Thames. The floor was splendid, the music provided by Kirby’s Orchestra was excellent, and a most enjoyable evening’s dancing’ was the result. Old time dances, which seem to be gaining favour, occupied a good portion of the programme. Bro. Godkin, of Waitakaruru, efficiently discharged the duties of M.C., assisted ably and in harmony ’by all the officers of the lodge. Supper arrangements were admirably carried out and contributed largely towards the success of the evening/ ' ■ In addressing the gathering at suppe rtime, Bro. Hardman stressed the good qualities of the Oddfellows’, Lodge, and hoped ’that those present who were not members would soon join up. It provided a splendid chancy for young people to get together—in fact, there was many a match made in the Lodge room, and those who wished to get married should join up immediately. (Laughter). During the evening competition waltzes were won as follows:— Monte Carlo: Mr McKerchar and Mrs V. Snow. Spot Waltz: Mr Clifford and Miss Quin. A competition for a fine set of carvers was won by Mr E. Burling.
