THE TALKIES.
AURORA THEATRE. “ CITY ’ LIGHT'S.” Right behind the scenes of a fight club Charlie Chaplin takes, his audi- ! ence in one of the feature sequences, of his greatest of all screen efforts,’ “City Lights,” his latest''United Artists release, which' ?s to open to-morrow -evening. All of the secrets as to just what does go on in the dressing i coms 'adjoining an arena are revealed by the comedian, with nothing left to the imagination. The beauty of it all is that the “actors” are ‘ genuine pugilists, known the world over, •. among ? them a number of ex-champions and near-champions and* wpuld-bes. d Chaplin pulls back the .partition between the training quarters and the auditorium'to bring to the screen some -of the possibilities and probabilities in'the realm of.fistiana, according to his conception. In so doing he enacts •- the character of a fighter and the one with whom he becomes embroiled is portrayed^by Hank Mann. These two actually, go into the ring, and engage each other for several rounds in what, -is declared the most si'de-splitting, exhibition of . the art of self-defence •ever to.have taken place on or off the ' screen.,. - . • • TURUA PICTURES. • “SECOND 'CHOICE.” ' “Second Choice,” screening at the Turua Haili on Saturday night, depicts a tangled state of affairs as the direct result of a too-hasty .marriage, contracted’when both, parties were in a state of* resentment over the fact that each had been thrown over. Dcimjes Costello, as the star, thinks at times that she is falling in love with her strangely won husband, but her momentary tenderness, is overcome by fond remembrance of 'the man who jilted her, and she feels that she cannot longer remain under the same roof rtith her' wedded mate. i
