COUNTY MATTERS.
PLAINS CHAIRMAN’S POLICY. CONSIDERATION BY COUNCIL. The matter of adopting the policy outlined by the chairman at the annua,!. meeting as .the policy of the whole council was brought up'for discussion at the Hauraki Plains County Council meeting on Thursday last. In 'regard to the county main road scheme, it was decided to hold a special meeting in a fortnight’s time to fully discuss, the matter, and also the principle of making the maintenance of metal roads a first charge on general rates. The policy of reconciliation was adopted, and the matter of the wharves was deferred until the special meeting. The chairman wa.s instructed to bring down a comprehensive report on his suggestion to delegate certain powers to committees. It was agreed to consider the striking of rates at the July meeting. Giants and subsidies had already been dealt with, and it was decided to support the policy ofc pushing on.with the water scheme. Finally it was agreed that the council approve of the chairman’s request, to discuss the matters brought forward in the chairman’s policy.
