67 YEARS IN NEW ZEALAND

NINETY-SECOND BIRTHDAY MRS. MARTIN, OF DEVONPORT. One of Auckland’s oldest identities, Mrs. Joseph Martin, celebrated her ninety-second birthday on Monday last at the residence of her son, the Rev. J. F. Martin, Methodist minister at Devonport. Formerly livingat Onehunga, she is now residing with her son at the Methodist parsonage in Church Setree, Devonport. Another of her sons is Mr. W. Lee Martin M.P. for Raglan. Born at Belfast, Mrs. Martin went to Melbourne in 1854, and eight years later landed at Dunedin. Her husband was a lay preacher in the Methodist Church in the Otago district, and she accompanied him in his early travels to various parts of the province. She came to Auckland over 30 years ago and has lived here since. Mr. Martin died some 17 years ago. There are seven sons, 34 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
