At the second ballot for checkwcighman by the Huntly miners Mr Jones was elected by three votes. Holiday excursion tickets will be issued on the Ist and 2nd December, to the Auckland Agricultural Show. At the evening’s Service, Presbyterian Church, on Sunday next, Rev. E. Swinerd will take as subject, “New Birth, What is it” (2nd part). All are invitedThe travelling public would do well to peruse the advertisement appearing in this issue re the alterations in the railway time-table, on and after Ist December. In our advertising columns this week will be found an advertisement respecting the Proposed Mangawhara River Board. The schedule shows that it is proposed to proclaim a certain portion of the Orini District comprising the country round the headwaters of the Mangawhara Stream to be a River District. We understand that the Mangawhara is very liable to overflow in this particular area, and that the cause of this overflow is mainly the choked up condition of the river by willows, and the very crooked nature of the stream itself. The overfllow causes much damage to the lowlying lands and it is to remedy this that the distict is sought to he constituted. The object of the advertisement is to enable any person feeling himself aggrieved by the constitution of the District, to appeal against it. Appeals must be lodged within one month ef the first appoarano of the notice,
