Ohinewai.

A social and dance under the auspices of the Patriotic League w r as held in the Ohinewai Public Hall last Friday, Mr Caleb Hill, president of the Branch occupying the chair. The chairman opened proceedings by giving an outline of the good work the Branch was doing and hoped that it would continue and that the membership would increase, as there was a big field for work which would be amply rewarded. Songs and recitations were then very capably rendered by a n umber of ladies and gentlemen, and at the interval, the chairman announced that one of the most popular residents of the district, in the person of Mr Angus McKinnon, had placed his services at the disposal of the Government for military service. The announcement was received with great applause, and a motion was carried to give him a hearty send off when on his final leave. The refreshment department which'was in the capable hands Mesdame Caleb Hill, Muir and Neil, was as usual right up-to-date, and those present did ample justice to the good things provided. After supper dancing commenced. Messrs C. Hill and A. Muir actingss M’s.C. Messrs A. Gall and J. Haig, who had charge of the musical portion of the programme, are to be congratulated on the great success of their efforts. Dancing continued until the small hours of the morning, when a very happy gathering was brought to a close by the singing of" God Save the King,” and“Auld Lang Syne.”
