QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the local Methodist Church was held on the evening of July I3th., when there was a good attendance of members to greet the newly appointed Chairman of the District, on this, his first visit to Huntly. Owing to the distance and the state of the roads, several members who reside at Pukemiro were unable to he present. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read, the reportand the ablance sheet were presented. The report showed the attendance had not been keeping up as well as could he desired, but this was largely accounted for by the departures for the Front, the choir having suffered especially severely from this cause. This is the first time for many years that Huntly lias been able to support a married minister, which shows that on whole the church is on the upgrade, and that all that is required is that the members throw themselves into and the Church must progress. The balance - sheet showed, however, that an improvement in the income was very necessary if the work was to be successfully carried on. Consideration of the financial position ended in the members deciding to make a trial of the envelope system, by which, those who could not always attend wero given an opportunity of contributing their share to the Church Fund. During the recent year, the Church has been moved and renovated throughout, and the expense of this work has left the trustees with a sadly depleted treasury, so that an effort on the part of the people is urgently needed. I was reported that an option had been secured over a section at Pukemiro, on which it was intended eventually to erect a new church. The report front the Sunday School was good, showing an average attendance of 75. The date of the next meeting left in the hands of the Rev Mr Fitchett to fix, and this being all the business, the meeting closed.
