Carnival Notes.
A canvass of Taupiri on Saturday last by five collectors realised over £6OO for the Sick and Wounded Fund. One man gave £l5O, another £SO and others lesser amounts. We were informed later that subsequently the fund had reached £_ooo. Here is an example which other farming districts might well emulate.
Considerable interest is taken in the flags at the School, which indicate each day the positions of the various Queen Candidates. So far there has been quite sufficient changing of the position to keep the interest up.
The children are keen collectors, and if the local Queen Competition does not realise a good round sum, it will not be for the want of persisi*nt and insistent canvassing on the part of the youngsters.
The stalls to be used on the 1 19th and 20th for the sale of goods donated by residents to the Sick and Wounded Fund, bid fair to be well supplied, quite a lot of people being hard at work to provide articles. It is said that the Judge who is to preside over the Mock Court to be held on the 19th inst, will have a long list to deal with, and as some of the cases are said to be serious, it is probable he will impose salutary penalties.
