Skellern, of Huntly South lias successfully undergone another operation. She is in a private hospital in Auckland, and from news to hand will soon be home again. The quarterly balance of the Huntly Miners’ Union shows receipts at £IBO 4s 3d, expenditure £163 Lss 3d, balance in hand and bank £l6 9s, assets £39 13s, liabilities £35 5s 3d, balance over liabilities £4 7s 9d. Messrs Hudner Bros’, undertakers and embalmers, Hamilton, announce in this issue on page one that they are prepared to supply the liighept grade of funeral work at the most economical rates. They also keep a full stock of artificial wreaths. The Bazaar in aid of renovation ot the local Methodist Church will be held on Friday and Saturday in the Masonic Hall. A Gazette extraordinary issued last Friday declares that bank notes shall be legal tender for a further period to February 6th next.

The Rev. J. L. A. Kayll will conduct an Orangeman’s service on Sunday morning next at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s (Anglican) Church.

The many friends of Mr and Mrs Leek, of Waisokowai will be glad to learn that their daughter Myrtle, was successfully operated on last Wednesday at the Hamilton Hospital for appendicitis- The patient is progressing favourably.

The first draft of the 25 head of cattle from the Raglan district for the patriotic sale, to be held on November I9th, at Hamilton, has arrived, and more are coming. Mr Chitty has offered to take charge of any stock sent, and to graze same free of charge.

Harold Haswell and Henry Sweeney escaped from Waikeria on Wednesday afternoon. Howell is 25 years of age, 6ft. in height, strongly built, of Bark complexsion and hair, and has a prominent nose. Sweeney is 34 years of age, sft. 7in. in height, of medium build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes, medium nose. Both are wearing prison clothes.

‘A farmer from Kimihia was convicted and fined 5s and 7s costs in the S.M. Court, Huntly on Monday Ist inst., before E. J. Farrell, Esq., J.P., for failing to have a light on his trap while driving through Huntly on 26th. September last. The night was very dark and defendant ran into a man on horseback. Under the Town District By Laws offenders are liable to a penalty of £5 for this offence.
