WESTLAND RACING CLUB. COMMITTEE MEETING, The committee met at 9 o’clock last evening. Present: Alessrs F. AlcGregor (chair/, H. Rutland, Al. B. James, A. \V. Yarrall, J. J. Breeze, F. Fane, M. Houstoni J. J. Alclntosh Junr., and D. J. Evans. An apology was received for the absence of Mr J. J. Mclntosh (President), y Mr J. O’Brien M.P., replied in.con- i. nection with troop train ariangetnentes " to enable the men in camp to be homo for Christmas. Received with thanks. It was resolved to admit all men in uniform, free to the race course on Saturday, December 28. The tender of Mr F. Freitas was accepted for the two publicans’ booths, and Air C. Fowler, for the sweet stall and ice cream stand, for the two race meetings, December, and February. A draft programme is to be prepared for the February meeting, 22 and 24, 1941. Air 0. J. Fowler, who retired from the position of caretaker, after many years, thanked the Club for its consideration and the recognition of the services of his wife and himself over many years. Alembers expressed their best wishes to Air Fowler for good health in his retirement. The Chairman referred to the fine condition of the * racing track and grounds, remarks which were supported'' by other members. The condition of the track was a great credit to Air T. Staines junr. who had planned so well, and carried out the work most satisfactorily. In regard to the condition of the grounds and appointments, the work of E. Howat (caretaker), was appreciated, as was also the free help given by Air G. Adamson, who had suggested various improvements. i A vote of thanks was passed also to Mr F. Thomson for assistance with timber supplied. The Secretary placed the nominations on the table, reporting there were 50 horses entered for the meeting and over 70 nominations in all. The entries were received as satisfacory. Regret was 'expressed that Air R. Adamson was not among • the nominators, and it was resolved'to write and wish him a speedy recovery from his temporary indisposition. v -I. • • / Tlie Ground Committee reported children were the cause of much mischief at the racecourse from time to time, and it was resolved’ not to admit them in future, without the permission of the Caretaker, a notice to ’be posted to that effect. ' "! The Committee made the usual arrangements for the meeting. Airs Fowler will be in charge of the refreshment room -and it was resolved to invite the Mnsicipal Band. Train arrangements at jj holiday fare will be provided; The first race will start at 12.30. As the meeting L will be held on the Saturday in Christ- T mas week, a good attendance, should be assured, and the Club enjoy a successful meeting. That was the wish of the Chairman at the close of the meeting.
