KANIERI NOTES
SCHOOL CONCERT
Wednesday evening saw the Kanieri Hall filled for the, annual, school concert.. A very entertaining programme was presented, and the children’s items reflected the preparation by their teachers. Solo and instrumental items by leading artists supplemented the programme. In past years the proceeds of their concert had been devoted to school prizes, btijr this year the children have shown a very pleasing gesture, and tlie net proceeds, £l4/16/4 have been donated to the Patriotic Fund. The following! was the programme;
Opening Overture, Betty Bristow; Patriotic Chorus, senior scholars; recitation, Frank Shields; solo, Mrs Fi'eitas (Woodstock); duet, Madeline Mitchell and Brian Norris; chorus, “The Pirates,” by junior boys*; violin solo, Mr W. Meharry "(Kokatalii); recitation, “Dr Quack,” Trevor Norris; step'dance, Jean Howat- (Hokitika) ; solo, Mr A. Perry (Hokitika); recitation, Joyce Best; chorus and dance, senior hoys. . Interval. Overture (Victorian Band) / .chorus. “Happy Little Japs,” by junior scholars; recitatioii, Bobby Mann; “The Cuckoo,” senior scholars; solo, Mrs McGlashan; duet, Joyce Johnstone and Tommy Dent; string duet, Messrs Tom Lee and Percy Crough (Hokitika) ; chorus, “Floating,” senior scholars; solo,, Mr Shields (Hokitika); recitation, Pauline Smith; playette, “Getting Rid... Of It,” by senior scholars.
A very hapy .interlude occurred prior to;the closing item, when Mrs Munson, ••their 1 retiring teacher, was presented with ]an.ornamental jug and dish, and 'if'-beautifuLbouquet from the scholars. Mr ;C. Howat (chairman) briefly eulogised .Mr,s Hanson’s 25 years service at Kanieri School, and -Mrs Manson Who could not disguise her surprise and pleasure, briefly replied.
