FOUR APPOINTMENTS. INCLUDE MR JOHN RYALL (Per Press Association —Copyright). WELLINGTON, July 15. Four appointments to the Legislative . Council for a term of seven years werp announced to-night by the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. P. Fraser), lto . said that the Governor-General had been pleased to appoint the following to the Council:— Mr Josiah Alfred Hanan (Dunedin). Mr William Grounds (BroadwoodL Mr William J. Rogers (Wanganui). Mr John ltyall (Barr.ytown). 'lion. Mr Hanan recently retired ' after 14 years, as a member of tin* Legislative Council. Hon. Mr Grounds is a North Auckland farmer, and a former Chairman of the Dairy Board. lion. Mr Rogers is the Mayor of Wanganui. Hon. Mr ltyall is the Chairman of tin* Grey County Council and a member of the West land Land Board. Hon. John Ryall, M.L.C., is a son of the late Mr and Mrs Denis Ryall, and a native of Barrytown, where he was horn 65 years ago. He has taken a prominent part in tile activities of the Grey County, of which he has beefi, a member continuously since; 1904. < having been elected unopposed on every occasion since his first election for the Cobden 'Riding. • >

Mrl Ryall has served a number of terms as chairman of the council, tin* last occasion being.last year.

Continuously since 1916, Mr Ryall lias served on the Greymouth Harbour Board, first as a Government nominee, and for the past three years as a representative of the Grey County. He was the first chairman of the board oiter that body became elective three years ago. Mr Ryall has been a member of the Westland Land Board since 1923, and was recently re-eldtited. Mr R-yall also served on the old Grey Education Board until 1 ’ its abolition, and his record of service on local bodies is an outstanding one. *, ■ . ,
