IN THE FAR EAST
AN AGREEMENT
BY BRITAIN AND JAPAN.

The Japanese vernacular press is declaring in chorus that the British Ambassador (Sir Robert Craigie) and the Japanese Foreign Minister (Mr AFlta) has reached & basis of understanding for the suspension of the transport of supplies for Marshal Chiang /Kaishek through Burma.
The newspapers say that Britain has accepted. Japan’s demands. They 1 claim, first, that Britain will prohibit the 'of arms, ammunition, trucks, and petrol; second, that if necessary the Japanese consular authorities at Rangoon will examine the act-' ual results of such prohibition; and third, that the Hong Kon,g authorities; have already acted in prohibiting arms ' traffic- to China.

The Tokyo newspaper “Nichi Nichi” says in a leading article: “Japan should take over the Netherlands East Indies, evdh by fighting the TJnited States, should interference come from America.”
