GAMING LAW FINES
(Per Press Association.—Copyright). HAMIJ/idN, April 27. Charges against two men, described as bookmakers, of using premises as common gaming-houses, were heard by Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M. at Hamilton to-day. The accused were Roy Edgar Scott, aged 33, of Hamilton, who pleaded guilty to using an office in Victoria Street as a common gaminghouse on April 21 . and Alfred Bruce Robert, aged 23, of Fraukton, who pleaded guilty to using premises in Commerce Street for the same purpose on the same date. Prosecuting Scott, Detective A. J. White said that a warrant was executed on Scott’s office on April 21, when the office was found to be fitted up as a bookmaking 'establishment. Betting was being done on the Whaiigarei races, and from hooks it was found that bets totalling £95 had been taken. Scott was convicted, and fined £IOO and costs. In the case of Robert, Detective White 'said that a warrant had been executed on his office on the same day, and here again the office was found to be fitted up as a bookmaker’s office. Material found showed that bets taken that day amounted to £94 14s 6d. A fine of £SO and costs was imposed.
