COASTAL DEFENCE
EX-NAVAL MEN’S OFFER. (Per Press Association.—Copyright). DUNEDIN, April 28. AVillingness of the Dunedin Branch of the ex-Royal Naval Men’s Association to help in any defence measures : adopted for protection of the Dominion was expressed in a motion carried by the recent meeting of the branch. It auchorised the offering of the services of members of 1 the branch to the Government, and a letter covering the offer stated :—“Having in mind splendid work which was carried out by the Royal Coast Guard during the last war in keeping our coastal lines of communication intact we feel that, as trained naval men, our services would be best employed in this direction.’' The offer was acknowledged by the Prime Minister in a letter to tiie President of the Branch (Mr A. J. Bean;, which expresses appreciation of it. “It is encouraging to know that we may rely upon the services of your members in connection with any defence measures that may be adopted by the Government,” Mr Savage added in his letter.
