ANZAC DAY. (From our own correspondent) On Tuesday last a large gathering assembeld at the war memorial in Moorhouse Street for the Anzac coim memoration. The Returned Soldiers, under Lieut. , A. Thompson and the Ross Territorials, under Sergeant-Major Johnston • were lined up facing the memorial. The Mayor (K. 0. May), made the opening speech, briefly referring to the cause of the Anzac service. They remembered the comrades who went out to the battlefields of the Great War—but did not return. They have given their lives for their country and it is to be hoped that that sacrifice has not been in vain. This address was followed by the singing of the “Old Hundreth.” A scripture reading was given by Rev. Keith Hadfield. Prayer by Rev. Hadfield. . - % : Recessional: “God of our Fathers.” Mr J. G. Johnston, of Hokitika,. delivered an eloquent and ‘inspiring’ Anzac address. This address lasting 30 minutes, was listened to most atten-’ Lively, and \ conveyed food for thought’ 1 to the many listeners. . -] At the conclusion of this address the “Highland Lament” was sounded by Piper McTigue. ‘, \ A number of wreaths were then placed on the cenotaph., . .- i ■ The “Last Post” and Reveille were the sounded by Bugler A. Vincent, J Next followed the hymn “Oh God,' our Help in Ages Past.” The proceedings closed with. the Benediction by Rev. K. Hadfield. Mrs E. F. May presided at the organ. ‘ .V BOROUGH COUNCIL. *: At a special meeting of the Ross Borough Council held, on Wednesday evening to deal with tenders l for the 21 years lease of part reserve 1463,' the following tenders were received.
