WOOL SALES

INCREASE AT NAPIER. (Per Press Association.—Copyright). HASTINGS, April 27. Attributed by one of the leading buyers to the conscription measures overseas, particularly in Britain, unusually spirited bidding, marked the final wool sale of the season to-night in Napier. The first catalogues showed a substantial rise on the Wellington sale. Many of the growers were pleasantly surprised to find a rise of from one half-penny to one penny per To. on the previous sale, and the settlers’ limits are believed to have been exceeded substantially. Bradford were the main operators, and the Continent to a less degree. Competition was keen, the prospects being from the start for an excellent sale. Passings were almost non-exist-ent in the early catalogues. Crossbred comprised the greater portion of the clip. , Approximately 99 per cent, of the catalogue was cleared at the wool sale to-night. The prices showed a general increase of a half-penny, though in some cases the increase was greatef. The growers express the greatest satisfaction with the sale. SYDNEY SALES. Competition was strong and general, with no change in prices. Greasy merino made 15? d.
