LABOUR DISSENSION

(Australian Press Association).

SYDNEY, April 27

The recent defeat of the Lang Labour candidates at two Statp byelections lias intensified the hostility of the moderate elements against Mr Lang’s leadership of the State Labour Party. The Parliamentary Labour caucus is now in open revolt, insisting upon his resignation with a view to complete unity of the rival Labour factions : in New South Wales.

The Parliamentary caucus to-day decided by 15 votes to 11 to invite the Federal Labour Executive to intervene in Labour affairs in New South Wales, to bring about unity and present a solid front against the Menzies Government in the event of a crisis in the Commonwealth Parliament.

During the debate certain speakers openly suggested that Mr Lang should resign. Mr Lang in reply is reported to have said it was not the duty of the caucus to make decisions on policy. That was the prerogative of the annual conference, which decided who should lead the party.
