BURIED UNDER SLIP

TWO. MEN KILLED. TRAGEDY ON P.W.D. JOB. (Per Press Association—Copyright). WELLINGTON. September 19. Reported to have been buried under a slip in the Ngahauranga Gorge, where work is proceeding on the reconstruction of the main highway, two men employed by the Tublic Works Department have been removed to the morgue, dead, and two have been admitted to . hospital. The: accident was the result of a premature explosion. The four men were wot king on a steep face on job. A hole had been driven and a heavy charge of eruptite inserted, and it was being tamped when it unaccountably went off. Detonating the charge consisting of one plug of gelignite with a dptonator had not been inserted. Two men, one. of whom received the fullest effect of the blast and was killed instantly, were completely buried by rock shaken down from the face by the premature blast. They were the foreman, named Ward, and a quarryman named Timlin, The injured men are named Berry and Holmes. Berry, who is a quarryman, was partially buried with rocks.
